Local Economy
The Washington DC Metropolitan area is a mecca for jobs and the area's unemployment
rate is consistently below the national average.
Employers such as the US government (with all of the agencies,
bureaus, and branches), military bases, and high-tech companies
who have national offices, contribute to the transience of the local
area.
People who desire to live in Old Town, Del Ray, Kingstowne, or Manchester Lakes in Alexanria VA
have the advantage of being in close proximity to major employment
hubs. These include Washington DC, Tysons Corner, and the Dulles
Corridor. Whether you're in the military, can program and talk 'bits
and bytes', or if you have any type of security clearance, you can
make Northern Virginia home.

You’ve heard that ‘Virginia is for Lovers’. I
think that means lovers of
nature. Because there are so many trees in the state of Virginia,
the landscaping is extraordinary. In the Fall, it is a breathtaking
site to watch the leaves change colors. Certain area highways provide
majestic views such as along the George Washington Parkway, Prince
William Parkway, and Georgetown Pike.
Does it snow in Alexandria, Virginia? Yes, but not
like it snows in New York. You can expect one or two big snowfalls
during the year. But if it does snow, you’ll know it. Area
news stations stay on top of the weather coverage. And there’s
nothing like a Washington DC area snow! The little ones get a break
from school, and are able to visit area parks and landmarks for
some good old-fashioned snowboarding. One of the most popular kids
spots after a big snow is the Masonic Temple in Alexandria.
The Spring and Summer months are comfortable. Remember, Virginia
is a southern state, so that means that there can be some summer
days that break 100 degrees, but not too many. Northern Virginia
residents are very happy to say ‘bye-bye’ to Old Man
Winter and have many outings at area parks and recreation centers.
Some of my favorites are Forest Park, Locust Shade Park, and Burke
Lake Park.
