The Capital City Brewing Company has an outpost here, and you’ll find tapas, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, and a good selection of delis and bakeries to round out one of the best dining centers in Northern Virginia. Dry Cleaning: Cleaners, groceries and other services cluster on nearby King Street and Four Mile Run Drive. Gym: The Village at Shirlington offers a Curves, and all the major fitness operators have locations nearby on King Street or Glebe Road. Neighborhood Description: Shirlington has enjoyed a resurgence and now bills itself as “Arlington’s New Downtown.” Shirlington delivers a wide array of new condo and townhouse developments, clustered around the Village at Shirlington. Locals enjoy walking to the art house movie theater and outdoor brunch at Carlyle. Other features include the nearby Washington and Old Dominion Trail, which begins at Shirlington and continues for forty-five miles into rural Virginia. Number of Homes: Much of the development in Shirlington is brand new, and a major new phase of development has begun that will lengthen the retail strip and add hundreds of new condo units. The surrounding neighborhoods feature modest single family homes and older condo buildings.
