Closest Attractions: You’ll find the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, one of the nation’s premier cultural venues, in Foggy Bottom. The George Washington University, the United States Department of State, and the Watergate Hotel round out the list of Foggy Bottom landmarks.
Restaurants: Foggy Bottom isn’t known as a major restaurant destination. One significant exception is Kinkaid’s, consistently ranked as one of DC’s top seafood spots.
Dry Cleaning: Along the commercial strips on Pennsylvania Avenue and Virginia Avenue you’ll find cleaners, pharmacies and all of the essentials.
Gym: While there are no major fitness clubs in the heart of Foggy Bottom, all of the major fitness operations in DC have branches along nearby K St., just a quick stroll from most points in Foggy Bottom.
Neighborhood Description: Between the flash of Georgetown and the Federal complex downtown, Foggy Bottom is a quiet, residential, and historic community. Foggy Bottom grew up as Georgetown’s somewhat more industrial sibling. The origin of Foggy Bottom’s name may lie in the smoke generated by the blacksmiths and brewers of the 19th century. For State Department, World Bank, and GWU professionals, Foggy Bottom provides a great mix of charm and convenience.
Number of Homes: Foggy Bottom occupies a small area on the DC map, but the variety of housing is dramatic. Choices range from the immense Watergate complex to quaint rows of early 19th century homes, to modern luxury condo developments.
