Harvard Study Shows That Owning a Home Can Make A Positive Difference In A Child

Did you know that owning a home can make a positive difference in a child, perhaps giving a child a better chance of getting better grades in school?  I've always suspected that a child who grows in  up a home that's owned versus a home that's rented can have a better chance.  But I didn't go to Harvard!

The the researchers at the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University reported that owning a home does indeed play a big part of giving a child a better advantage.

According to the study conducted in 2001, they found that children who growing up in a home that's owned vs one that's rented:

  • had higher math scores
  • boasted higher reading scores
  • showed reduced behavioral problems

I'd love to hear thoughts from school teachers and administrators.  Quite frankly, I'm surprised that the results of this study aren't used more often when it comes to conveying to the public one more advantage to owning a home.
